It is a beautiful engine Philip !
Love the chuff it makes...
Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you on your boiler quest

A beautiful engine with a lovely sound to it.

Just watched your PM Research engine again Phillip and marvel at the quality look and workmanship. They make a good line of products for sure. Getting a dedicated, huge boiler big enough to power it might not be worth it as it would have to be large indeed. Air is not so bad and much more economical vs. a boiler.
Thanks Rog, it is a very special engine and i don't think there are many of them this side of the pond.
I have to say the raw PMR castings were superb quality, they do make very nice stuff and i'd wish they would offer some of the other steam engine kits such as the #1 mill engine as a fully machined option. This engine was machined to a very high standard and i'm confident it will run on very little pressure when properly run in, the problem is finding a suitable boiler as you point out. I don't think it would be a problem if i were to just run it without a load, however there is a lot of iron to heat up and i think it would empty a small boiler in short order ( i have tried!).
My intention is to run it on steam one day!

Just saw this and am very impressed - that's a really nice big engine especially with the mods! Good luck on finding a boiler - looks like it would need to be a big one.

Phillip that's just one awesome engine. Totally enjoyed watching that video.

What a great engine. The video is good too.

I forgot to add that this engine has had quite a few modifications to the original plans, for example it features all BA fixings and has a gunmetal piston and valve and a stainless steel piston and valve rod. It also features phosphor bronze bearing bushes and locomotive style cylinder drains, so it really was designed for steam and hard work which hopefully it will get once i've sourced a good boiler later down the line.

that is a big brute Philip, & runs a treat , love to get one for myself one day.

Thanks guys
My regret is that i nearly bought a nice Maccsteam 6" twin flue gas fired boiler for it, sadly they are no longer in business. Either that or a nice coal fired boiler would pair well with it.
I'd say it is comparable to a 1/4 horsepower Sipp and thus fully capable of doing real work. In that way I'd say that it actually is a full size engine in that engines of this size were often used to power things within shops and factories back when steam was King. This engine could easily have driven a bellows on a small forge or a bank of sewing machines, possibly even a small lathe or drill press, or a whole host of smaller machine tools.
I must admit i really like those 1/4 horse Sipp engines Daniel, you never see them for sale over here. You are quite right in saying my engine is good as a small workshop engine used to power lathes and such as i think that is what they were built for, i.e the electric motor of it's day!
I know the PMR 6CI is based on those nice A J Weed engines that came in different HP sizes, i hope Gil might do a post featuring his collection of them.

That's a Big Beauty you have there Philip ... for certain and for sure!

NICE!!!

An old $5 yard sale pressure cooker will run it easily for many hours. I have taken one to outdoor shows and run engines on steak all day. I heat it with another yard sale item-an outdoor turkey fryer with a big propane burner and stand . if you find one that the husband almost burned the house down using it on the back porch, the wife will sell it REALLY cheap!

With or without a boiler Philip, that is a beautiful machine in motion...love it.

Tis a thing of beauty Philip.

The largest steam engine in my collection and the closest i will probably get to owning a full size steam engine.
To my shame i've yet to get a boiler big enough to power this engine on live steam but it is on the cards one day.
