Bonjour,
To my opinion, there is no link between having a feed water pump or not as I always have a check valve with and the ferule for it is not the one for the regulator.
Furthermore when I don't navigate, I keep my boilers open and empty.
About the modification, it was a test for fun, I don't think it will change anything in the life of the membrane as soon as I assume that they have to be changed after a while. As long as the regulator is working properly, no need to touch anything after all.

Very nice Raphael, I will do the same modification if you think it is worthwhile. Do you use a feed water pump on the boiler that deformed the membrane? I wonder if the vacuum from your boiler would have been eliminated by the feed water check valves, and saved the membrane.

I think I was one of the first steam passionates (in France) to get several of these regulators and the first ones had poor quality membranes, this is why I changed them with 0,5 mm nitrile ones. Furthermore I enhanced one of them like this :

Currently, they are delivered with a second pair of membranes.

Excellent, thank you Raphael! I have not yet landed on a layout for my gas, blow down and feed water piping but it is good to know this isn't a major concern. Have you had to replace the membrane at all while running it this way?

No problem with this way of mounting your regulator, I did an equivalent on several of my boats, see my videos below.
However, a siphon protects the diaphragm, never mind, you can change it easily.

Hi, I am hopeful Jin will be able to answer this, but anyone who knows can chime in: can I run the regulator in contact with water, or does it need to be "isolated" like a pressure gauge (by a siphon) see below for how I was thinking I may mount it if it doesn't matter. [attachimg=1]
