Great work Jim.

You may be able to straighten the manometer by using one or two copper washers.

This is the technique that Keith Appleton uses.

I worked on this fine old engine all weekend. It's had a tough life and sustained some damage through the years. Someone applied glue to all of the fittings to seal them. I removed all of the glue. The drain cock was pushed in a bit and the boiler shell collapsed around it when I tried to service it. So I made a patch, resoldered the threaded receptacle to the patch and soldered the patch to the boiler. The whistle fitting could not be removed probably because the threaded receptacle was loose inside the boiler, so that fitting had to be soldered to the boiler. I removed rust from the burner housing and repainted it, cleaned an re-installed all of the fittings, and lubricated the engine. It runs like a dream on air. I'll post a video later.

Good luck with your work!
As soon as I arrive at home, I immediately get to work
to bring the steam engines back into shape. Haha

After two hours of intense disassembly, cleaning, polishing, glue removal, etc., the engine is beginning to look much better. Once again, one of the fittings will not come out of the boiler but I've been there before with my other Doll engine so I know what I will do.

Another excellent machine Jim; congratulations. I am also a TCA member, and I attend the Eastern division meetings in York, PA when I can.

A great find Jim; and $300 was a steal.

Here's mine running.  A previous owner added a wooden base on the bottom.

I paid way more than $300 for mine.

Thanks, Arnold. I have the original burner. The weight is missing so I'll have to look around for one.

Title: York Train Show Find #2: Doll Vertical
Post by: skeptic49 on April 27, 2022, 02:59:36 pm
Today I had a really fun day searching for steam toys at the Train Collector's Association pre-shows, known as "Bandit Meets." These non-sanctioned meets are held in a couple of hotels in York in the days preceding the official show, which runs Thursday through Saturday. One of the meets spills out into the adjoining parking lot. This is where I found this irresistible Doll vertical housed in a beautiful home-made wooden box adorned with brass castings. I do not have my reference books with me so someone will have to help with identification. The engine looks complete and should work after some cleaning, repairs, etc.
