Ok well its sorted, using a small cylinder drain cock from a 5" loco I turned up an adaptor using 6nn hex bar threaded one end for the boiler at M5 and the inset to match the draincock 5/32 x 40tpi altered the offset on the handle and silver soldered this in place.
Tested and all works fine, made up the new pipework and steam tested it.. this gives very nice slow running control when useing one of my regulator sets

Can anyone help on my mission?

It should be possible, to hunt down one of the old metal regulators...
In fact there could be a fair chance, that someone in here has one in the parts box, they would be willing to let go.

Just working on a rebuild for a customer, and hit a problem... the current Wilesco regulator is pretty dire to to say the least, when the engine is cold it almost falls out of the regulator body and when the engine is in steam its imposable to move it without the use of pliers.
I've fitted one of our own regulator kits and all this does is bend the shaft
Does anyone make a replacement regulator to match the good old metal bodied version that worked so well
I did see someone making a very neat lubricator but can find them anymore
