Awesome plant Bruce!

Is this one for you or are you going to sell it?

Bruce, this is beautiful. Great display of talent and creativity! (Attachment Link)

I especially like the way you siamesed the two steam pipes to a single point, with the gauge mounted on top. Way cool!

I'm assuming you finished the firebox with the VHT burnt orange paint? It looks great, and is something I'm considering for a future project.

A couple of questions about the heater cartridge setup: How close were you able to fit the heater cartridge to the brass insert? Do you use any kind of heat-transfer compound when installing?

Congratulations on a really fine job!

Paula
Hi Paula
The cartridge heater is a very snug fit and no heat transfer compound is necessary, generally I have to push the heater in slowly enough to allow the air to escape,  most time because of the irregularities of either the drillbit or cartridge heater there is enough binding as to stay in place when tipped on end,, generally I find out where it goes in easy and give a slight twist and that locks it in place.

Great job! Nice to see the boiler has no problem keeping up with both engines.
That was a prime concern Bret , the boiler "had" to keep up with the demands of both engine simultaneously, which it does.

Thanks folks, it started out as 2 restored #25's (even finished both of their bases) then I thought "why not go all the way" with a large plant.

Hello folks
I haven't made a large plant for a while, so it's time.
this plant features (2) Jensen 25's powering a Jensen #15 generator/transmission which in turn is powering yet another lower ratio transmission, the other Jensen #25 is powering a windmill. every engine, generator & transmission & windmill have roller ball bearings in the axles for heavy duty trouble-free long-term use. I have installed a custom brass pressure gauge mount & 0-30 psi pressure gauge. the boiler (2.5"od) has a brass sleeve cartridge inserted 700W heater (easily replaceable) she weighs 11.5 lbs.; the solid plinth is 18" x 16" & is 18" tall @ the tip of the windmill. it has a heavy duty 3/16 awg (grounded) 8' power cord. 2 Brass tags identify this plant & the maker. I have many hours in this project & I take great care in making it run as good as possible & strive for attention to detail.
