Thanks all for the kind and encouraging words.

Those look to be the size I really should have considered building and collecting myself. I'd have a few more on display that way, and many less lost in boxes taking up excess space!
Nice work on those little beauties Robin!!!

Very well done, Robin...!!

Attractive little engines 8)

Very nice looking engines, well done Robin!

Cheers, it's something I've always wanted to do and it looks like you've certainly mastered it.

Thanks,
I made some forming blocks from aluminum on the lathe. I then annealed the brass and slowly beat the ends over.
Small taps and re-annealing is the key.
Once I had them formed up I took very light clean up cuts on the lathe. I think Tony Bird documented this pretty well in one of his old threads, that's pretty well where I saw it.

They look really good.
How did you form the end caps?

Howdy all,
Got some time to sit down and photograph some of the engines I've been working on. Actually these were mostly built some years ago and I have just decided to finish them up and maybe start some new ones.
The first on I made is pretty simple, 1/4"x5/8" bore and stroke and small boiler. It runs pretty well on it's single wick burner, which I can't seem to find at the moment.

The overtype I am really pleased with now. I just built a taller and larger firebox for it and a 2 wick burner. I've still got some small things to finish, but it works really well.

The vertical I hope to get working next. I've got o make a new port block and screw it on rather than just solder. I also hope to make a small 2 wick burner for it and a base of course

I have quite a few bits and bobs from a few years ago. I really want to build a steam launch, and a larger horizontal boiler of perhaps 2 inch diameter. Then maybe something other than an oscillating engine.
Regards,
Robin
