So the valve is held closed by the spring. I guess it works, do you feel there is much leakage around the valves? The springs must be fairly strong to hold the valve closed, does this put much strain kn the mechanism?

The steam admission valves are held closed by spring pressure and opened by a gear driven cam shaft.

Howdy all,

As I've been browsing the interwebs looking for potential new project ideas I have come across the Bing poppet valve engine (130/281). Its appears other companies also made a very similar design as well.

What I can't figure out is the steam path! It looks all wrong with the poppets moving towards the cylinders. I assume steam pressure is holding the valve shut most of the time, but then how is steam getting in?

Does anybody have a diagram or pic of the valve arrangement?
