Hi, George,

I've also used the Logan to make the cylinder for Dr. Senft's Thimble Engine (1/16" bore and stroke, with an integral trunnion threaded internally 000-120)), and had no trouble running off four (in case of goofs). Ironically, though, I keep messing up the engine frame, even though I have a dandy little Sherline mill to make it with.

I think the skill of the worker enters into this somewhere, and I'm not very skilled, I fear.

Hi Bob,
I have an 11 inch Logan and a 6 inch Atlas/Craftsman. You're right about the lathes. If forced into it I can make small pieces on the Logan but can't make large pieces on the Atlas.

I don't know what size lathe George used, but I built a similar-sized engine (Tubal Cain's Jenny Wren, with a 1/8" bore and stroke) using a 10" Logan lathe. See my avatar for a picture.

It would appear to be true that you can make small things with a big lathe, whereas you cannot make big things with a small lathe....🤔

I was a bit worried about too much air launching it off the end of your air gun though  :o
