Thanks Larry :)

Lots of patina there - lots of fun too. Good for you Jim working with him.

Thanks Bruce, he's having a great time!

He looks right proud of himself (as he should be)
Re: the above Jensen #25, I can understand the burnt handle over the boiler...but the burnt handle on the steam valve is a puzzler, how did the flame get that far afield? unless it was swapped out. you'd be surprised how that boiler would polish right back to new looking should you remove it & give it a polish. it's good that his Grandad has such a library of engines & accessories for him to borrow from & looks like he's taking full advantage of it. this warms my heart.

Yep he's had personal one on one instruction on every engine he borrows (we steam them numerous times together).....its just one of those things, he's learning and things are going to happen.
He proudly showed me blisters that he's given himself today when he came over for a swim.
@Bruce .....Bruce he put together the Christmas stocking filler today (it's been a super busy and hot Christmas holidays...kids get 7 weeks off school) that you bought for your Grandchildren and posted in thread today and my son just sent this pic to me :)

Perhaps I'm dead wrong, or at least overreacting, but it appears a somewhat heightened level of instruction &/or supervision might be in order in the early going of this program?!?!

Maybe he was experimenting with superheating the steam line. ;D It's
important to learn what works and what doesn't.
Sounds like a good theory
Cheers

He sure must have had some fun and I trust your steam library did not burn down.
Good on you for getting him interested!

Haha he had some fun :D

I suspect that the burner boiled over big time. He must have had a serious fire there. Probably had him in a little bit of a panic for a few seconds. That’s how you learn!

My Grandson did a swap over at the 'Steam Library' today, he's put 26 hours and litres of metho through this (was unfired) Jensen #75.
I gave him the smallest Mamod metho burner to use with this engine as it fitted perfectly.....I don't know how he managed to scorch the steam valve :) :) :)
