If I decide to get one it will probably be a school engine. I like running generators and it won’t need to run fast with that nice big flywheel!

There was no exhaust piping on my brass one as received, the ports are inconveniently placed on the underside of the steam chest but I managed to fit pipework without any major disassembly, basically just a simple manifold which bolts onto the the underside of the steam chest using the existing bolts.
I thought you might like to see the schools engine in steam, the video was done while testing a new boiler which I bought as an unfinished project:

I intend to remove valve chest and drill the exhaust bigger and thread and then screw in pipes probally 2 into 1 .
The horizontal will need the same done .

Well out of the box with oil on joints and a air test it runs on about 6 PSI .
But there appears to be blow by of the valve or piston .

Glad you enjoyed it John. The boiler is a simple pot type, 3" x 7", brass tube with copper end caps and an internal stay. The gas burner is a Bix 5 incher with a No7 jet, running on butane/propane mix, once steam is raised it can be turned down to almost minimum to maintain pressure, I think my smallest (2 inch) Bix burner would probably give enough heat for this setup. Boiler capacity is sufficient for a good 45 minute run with an ample safety margin.
I have a Polish school engine too which had a full restoration by the seller to a very high standard and that is a very fine runner on both air and steam.

Thanks for posting that Dave! I watched it first on my phone and then decided it was worth watching on the 65” TV. That looks like a nice engine with some torque. I have a few boiler questions. It looks to be about 3” diameter and is it a simple pot boiler? What size burner and jet are you using? It looked to supply enough steam for that engine.

I bought the all brass horizontal engine 7 or 8 years ago and made a boiler for it, my most recent video of the steam plant is here:

As you can see it runs quite well now on fairly modest pressure, usually 7-12 psi with the safety set to 20 - it is a sizeable boiler but just soft soldered ( I did pressure test it to 60 psi before use!), the governor is just for show, the rest of the bits are largely recycled brass stuff from charity shops.

I have two
A blue horizontal twin cylinder
And a blue vertical single cylinder ( arrived today )
Not run as yet but maybe this weekend if i feel up to it .
I will give a report when i do .

I’ve seen a number of reviews and videos on the old Polish school engines, but I can’t find a lot about the new ones. They look really nice and are priced very low for what you are getting. I would like to know what actual owners think of them. How well do they run on steam? Almost any engine can run half decently on air, since you usually have a large supply to overcome a lot of deficiencies. These look really tempting and my half Polish wife told me I should get one.😊😊😊
