Yes, you are probably right.  I'm priced out of Europe.

That said, I'm checking out a Great Britain auction website.
I asked them to give me an idea on shipping and just exactly
how their sales tax and VAT works.  I have my eyes on a Doll
twin.

Unfortunately shipping out of any country is cost prohibitive anymore. The last thing I bought out of Germany arrived with both legs sets broken off, the seller touted "insured" shipping,  but when it came right down to it he didn't even want to make a claim, I'm still waiting 1 yr later for it to be made right. Your probably better off passing on this one.

Well, I just heard back from the German auctioneer.
He quoted 100-200 euros for shipping (sounds like a
'we don't want to do it' price) which is a lot more
than a year ago.  Then he answered the big question
by confirming that there is a long crack in the side
of the boiler.  Too bad on both accounts as I'd like
to have seen and worked with the geared valve setup.

There is always another engine to lust after.  This
one is too far gone and....too expensive to ship.

Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks, Arnold.  It does not look good.
Caveat emptor rules.

Better wait for a nicer one in a better condition.
This one needs the change of the complete boiler - I
am pretty sure its cracked. The auction house should
declare if there are such defects.

Arnold :(

a very nice and rare Bing ships engine -
valve train with vertical shaft/gears
but if you look closer the boiler seams
to have a bad crack - all other can be
restored. I tried to make a screen shot..

Thanks for the replies.
True, I've seen and bought worse.

I am curious about the valve train.
Gear driven thru a vertical shaft
from the looks of things.

It's tough to take photos in a glass case with light coming in and reflecting.

Doesn't look too rough to me.

Bing 13931

This engine overseas caught my eye as it ticked off
two of my wants, a ships engine and simulated parquet
covered base.  Pretty rough.  There are two screws
protruding from the top of the cylinder (?) and the
sightglass area is nasty.  Lots of rust.  Hmmmm.

It appears that the valve is gear driven, which would
be a first for me.  Does anyone have experience with
this model?  Any common problems rehabbing them?

The pix are the best I could do.  Screenshot taken by my
20 year old Panasonic Lumix and edited to lighten the shot.

Thanks,
Wayne
