6v is correct. 

Not sure about the amperage.

Make sure the wiring is not exposed and touching any of the metal (on the bottom).

I have had this problem in the past.

The contacts need to be super clean and oil and dirt free.

Unfortunately, many times the magnetism is so weak that they won't operate and/or the coil is bad.

Back in the era of that motor, I believe that both 6vdc and 12vdc were the standard in "portable" dry cell batteries. I'd say 6vdc would be a good place to start.

Wouldn't hurt to clean the contact points, any grease or oil there will seriously disrupt functionality.
My choice would be to clean/degrease with a proper solvent like Isopropyl Alcohol, and then use a "Fiberglass Brush" on brushes/contact points after...those things are amazing.

As far as correct voltage goes, i do have that data...

However personally i would not hesitate, to make a quick test with 4.5 or even 6 volt.
Too low voltage would display same symptoms as you describe.

Need assistance in getting this motor to run. I can see a small faint blue spark when I spin the flywheel. It spins very freely. The photo shows it spinning. I’m using 2 AA batteries. It does not run. What voltage battery should be used? Do I need to clean the contact points, if so, what is a good way to do that ? I did get it to run for about 20 seconds one time. It apparently can run in either direction. Thanks for any help.
