That's pretty cool,also a thermoelectric generator. There's also a smaller, more portable one called "Biolite". They are also used in deep space (out of the range of solar power) with radioisotopes providing the heat.

I found this while searching info re small pellet stoves.
It has what must be a modern version of the heat to electricity machine demonstrated above.

Thanks Charlie but not sure it will be capable of powering anything as the thermocouples deteriorate over time.
