Yes Jerred is a very kind and generous man! (my great uncle and him are first cousins)
I was lucky enough to meet his father in the mid '90's. My dad was looking for someone to cut a helical gear so we found Jim's blacksmith shop. He couldn't do it, but he got in the pickup with us and took us to someone else that could (he was on oxygen at the time). That was long before I knew Jim and my great-uncles dad were brothers... Wish I would have known all this long ago and had not just recently found out about Steam School. I would love to see if I could invite you to the threshing get-together coming up in West Concord, Jerred and Eileen are usually there.

I also really looking forward to the school.
I look forward to discovering more of my unknown unknowns!
I do have a big list of known unknowns as well. For example, engine power. It is a combination of displacement (bore and stroke), BTUs and pressure. Of my engines, I have a wide variety of those parameters. I hope to learn some theory as well as seeing full size toys. :)

Did I hear right that you and Nick will attend the same class at the Rollag Steam School?
We are attending "The Heritage Park of North Iowa Steam School" in Forest City, IA.
I have been told by many that it is more hands-on and less students per instructor (I believe 4 students to 1 teacher). Jerred Ruble talked me into finally signing up last fall.

When I was there it was on display inside one of the traction engine buildings.
I have not seen it run. I will add that we attended only 2 or 3 times.

That's one way to slow down a stock Mamod - looks like fun.

I have the Mamod Double Traction complete. I've been thinking of editing together a bunch of the smaller movies about it to make a "feature".
In the video, the one doing the wheel spin is what I call Mamod Double Action as it has a locomotive cylinder on it.
I am not convinced that the double acting runs better than single acting but as always there are so many variables. A single running locomotive cylinder doesn't make a good sample size. ;)
