Thanks every one. Now to find one close.

Sorry about your blown heater. I've converted 4 Empire engines and one
Weeden to cartridge heaters. I you could start looking thru the ebay
listings for cartridge heaters and find one (or two) that will deliver
at least 300 watts. I suggest you finagle together two pieces of flat
steel or a thick rod, drill a hole equal to the length of the cartridge,
put the cartridge in, and then fit/wire it into the underside of the boiler.
The pieces of steel act as a heat-sink/moderator keeping the cartridges
from going incandescent and burning out. This latter instruction is used
when you are replacing a blanket or 'hotplate' heater.
If the engine has a cartridge heater (at least one Weeden does and I replaced it),
try to find a close to exact replacement and you will not need the additional
iron.
Good Luck,
Wayne

Good job Nick!
I was going to make the same recommendation, but couldn't find the original post either and also couldn't remember the company name?!?!
Sure glad somebody around here still has a few brain cells to rub together to come up with stuff like this!!! ;c)

Can’t find the post but someone was using cartridge heaters from Heat and Sensor

If noone steps in with an offer from their parts drawer, i would suggest hunting down a donor engine on Ebay.
Very common to see a damaged Weeden 43, which holds the same heater as the 44, going for next to nothing in there.
Only problem i see, in case that you don´t have a 43 already, you might end up having to buy two...since the 43 is a very nice little engine as well ;D

I need a cartridge heater for a weeden 44. Having hard time finding the right one. Any help would be great.
Thanks.
