Later No.43 long boiler, very nice example - nice buy congrats!  I agree, those later model whistle levers are kind of a pain but when you get them to move the whistle is good and loud ;-)

Thanks!  I got it working good now. Lots and lots of oil.

That is a nice Empire. It looks to be in great shape and a good steamer. Congratulations on that find.

Picked up this beauty on eBay from Florence, SC!   Just arrived today. Everything is working great and the whistle is so loud it actually has blown my ear drums
out!  I had to soak it in vinegar as it was stuck closed. Oiled it up and it works great. However it still gets stuck where the lever doesn’t want to engage the whistle without effort. It’s an odd design for a whistle lever. 

Oiled everything else. NO LEAKS!  Has great power and the heater seems to work just fine.

If you want to comment or tell me more about this engine I’d be thrilled.
