Thank you to all who participated in this 2024 global power up.
And a special thanks to Nick for all the hard work of pulling this together. I enjoyed this very much and think it really gave a shot of interest to this good forum.

That bottom video is "perfect" for an application of this model sweep, I can hook a cheap Chinese generator up to the pto & keep everything tucked inside the travel circle of the horses...thx for the idea. 😉😊

Yeah but, where are you going to find a pigmy pony to pull it???    ;c)
Oh, Ye of little faith, SPS stables are working on it right now to genetically modifying Falabella horses with teacup chihuahua to come up with the perfect pulling ponies for my model sweep.

It is called a sweep . It is a turned by a draft animal walking round and round it . The two small pinion gears are power takeoffs to power some type of machinery with a drive shaft . Check out the videos at the old thrasher reunions . They usually have these things running for demonstration purposes .  The link below shows one in action.

I took some screen shots from the video for ratios. ;)

I'm wondering if that cart you showed is an Irish Mail Cart?
I agree with you, I believe it is some kind of Irish mail cart.

Really unique and well crafted machines! I have seen circular saws and band saws in miniature but no splitters.
Thanks George, I didn't build them, just merely made them serviceable.

The cross cut saw is so elegant and functional!

Has me contemplating one made from Meccano or Märklin Metall... mmm... :)
I actually just spent a little more time on it reaming out the brass bearing blocks to make it even smoother, its been operating next to my chair for the last few hours. I know I really like something when I bring it in & set it on the table next to my chair while watching TV.
If you would like any further technical info on it...I would be happy to make some measurements on another video.

I've always heard those called a "Whim", and they typically had a winding drum used as a winch in mining or logging.

Guess Bruce is going to need to harness his hamster in order to drive his new accessory set?!?!  ;c)
That's the thing about that particular toy...how do I run it ? How did the builder run it ? Why did he build it if he couldn't operate it....ohhhh the injustice of it all. I know...I'll get some oompa loompa's 😀

Miniature steam powered pretzel display stand.
it stands 11 7/8" tall @ the top of the pretzel, weighs 2 lbs , is 4 1/4" square, has a capacity of 48 pretzels & is powered by an onboard Jensen #85 steam engine heavily messaged & with roller ball bearings, it is a worm drive gear system also with 2 roller ball bearings in the axle. there are 3 roller bearings in the rotisserie post mounts & has 3 tiers of pretzel holders with 4 racks on each tier (all brass, all adjustable), the case is solid Indiana Oak w/ polycarbonate clear sheet for the windows. this display is powered by a Jensen #55 steam engine. the SPS signage was custom made by Kramer creations. the pretzel on top was handmade by me out of modeling clay, hardened & painted & drilled & tapped to screw onto the Brass rod. it will run on as low as 2psi (& getting better all the time) I can remove the belt and run off of any steam engine of 7/16" bore or larger.

Bowman m101 live steam engine powering a Wilcox & Gibbs sewing machine.
In order to see if the Bowman m101 could power a sewing machine (as advertised) I thought I would hook it up to my Wilcox & Gibbs sewing machine and give it a go, it ran it just fine.

lastly for this set of hand crafted toys is a self propelled cart of some sort (provided your small enough to ride on it)
I really don't know what this is exactly folks, I could really use some help in this department. it would appear that the handles would propel it when moved back & forth. it is so fragile & in bad condition that I would probably need to build an entire new frame for it, & even if I do, I'm still not sure what I would have. any help fellow steamer/railroad people ?

Hand crafted ??? model steam engine tool
I don't really know what this is, I need your help to identifying it please. it is 4 1/2" sq x 3" tall & weighs 1 lb. 10 oz. & has a 14" long swing arm.

Okay Bruce .... after giving it some thought and looking at your other accessories in the same set, I'm going to suggest that it was an overhead boom swing-crane for delivering materials to the various other accessory workstations. Ceiling mounted, inverted (boom side down), it could be driven in either direction via pulleys on each of the side shafts from a common jackshaft by slacking and tightening the drive belts on either side thus not having to reverse the main power source, or jackshaft. The big circle arc that boom would make could still work for all of the other accessories if laid out properly, with raw material pickup on one side and finished material drop off on the opposite side.

Creative.  8)

A 360o swing arm with a hook on the end of it, must be intended to do something?

While I don't know what it is, or is supposed to actually do, I find that the two square ended side-shafts turning in opposite directions is an interesting, if not really diagnostic feature!?!?

hand crafted crosscut saw model steam engine tool.
here we have a hand-crafted crosscut saw made for a model steam engine.
It is 15" overall (inc. blade) 9 1/4" with blade folded, it is 5 1/2" W & 5 5/8" tall & actually will cut some wood. I simply placed a brass pulley I had setting around on it & it was ready to go. frame is made from Oak. this is not one of my builds, but I am proud to have it. this is a very simple but well thought out steam toy & I enjoy it quite a bit.

Love those splitters Bruce!! I’ve used a double splitter like that and they are a lot of fun  ;D

I never seen these on eBay but I’m glad you got them, because you’re the one who will return them to their former glory or more likely better than new.

Interesting accessories Bruce especially the log splitters. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like those.
Thanks Larry, they were on Ebay a week ago or so & I instantly fell in love with them, the folksyness of them & the old build wood charm attracted me immediately. they all required quite a bit of work to get them "close" to what I wanted them to be as far as exhibition (show) ready. very grateful I was able to acquire them all.

I now know what this model is, it's called a "sweep" meant to be powered by horse(s) moving about in a continuous circle, generally hooked via a very low-slung drive shaft connected to a tool outside of the horse's path. it is 4 1/2" sq x 3" tall & weighs 1 lb. 10 oz. & has a 14" long swing arm.

Welcome steam friends  :)
---new video's to be added daily--
this year I have decided to focus mainly on steam powered accessories, please enjoy & feel free to comment all you like. sooo...grab your favorite beverage, sit back and relax.
Hi folks
here we have a Hand-crafted twin log splitter model steam engine tool that is 7 1/4" tall ,5 1/2" wide & 6 1/4" long & weighs 1 lb. 13 oz. this was not made by me. it has an oak stand with homemade pulleys & running gear. It needed a bit of work to get in this condition & now runs out very well.
https://youtu.be/CIVRZS1cSco
https://youtu.be/rbCxHAFl4_g

next is a single log splitter model steam engine tool. it is 9 1/2" tall, 4 1/4" wide & 7 1/2" long at the base, it's a bit top heavy & I'm considering mounting it to a larger base. its about 3 lbs in weight. it has 2 axles with home made pulleys & 4 oilers in 4 brass axle block supports. I didnt build this but did do quite a bit to make it function like you see it now. frame is made from Oak.
