Those two engines by Graham Heavey will look similar to Cranko as they made using Cranko parts .
I know Of Graham and he has some how acquired Cranko unused parts and has boxes of parts under his house and every now and again he makes a couple of engines and sells them .

Any way
These two here are play worn Cranko un altered

Thank you for posting your pictures.  I had looked at them.  In fact I think I remember seeing the engine with the bent-metal frame some time ago, not sure where.

Yours will be an original from Donald Cranko workshop.
Stamped Cranko inside a Diamond  . Earlier engines have Cranko NZ. ( no diamond )
When Cranko closed down some of his  parts ended up in Auckland at the “ Auckland Model Engineers “ . They assembled horizontal and vertical used a different darker green and paper label.
The one you showed in the steam bible has been fiddled  with .
Did you look at the link i did with the -photos of my two in original used condition

Cheers
Dennis

These two engines by Graham Heavey, a vertical and a horizontal, seem to have many of the same parts, such as the frame.  That was another reason I had been concerned that it was a reproduction.  Are these the engines you're talking about?

Thanks, Dennis.  At one time I was worried that it was a reproduction. The box is a perfect fit, but doesn't have any factory markings. My fears diminished when I discovered the stamped logo on the firebox.  It's not easy to see without sunglasses.  I wasn't sure what production changes might have been made towards the company's end -- to save money.  There just aren't many pictures of these on the web.  That said, there is this No. 2 I discovered that you likely know about.

Beautiful boat!  What is the size and type of engine! Oscillator?

It's a Wilesco engine, but not one of their standard marine engines.  It is an oscillator, which you can see if you follow the link above the picture. The boiler is probably the same size as in the D48, but I haven't measured it.  The boat is fairly large -- a little over 2 feet long.

I like the Märklin so much that I have somehow ended up with two of them here :D

And that Cranko! Check it out @Scorpion2nz

Not sure what I am supposed to say about the Cranko

As for the Märklin valve linkage, I haven't researched that. It doesn't look original, but it is nicely done with its matching wood handle.  It's also not something my Dad would have added.  It is interesting!

That reversing mechanism on the vertical Marklin was definitely added by a previous owner.

Interesting! Like to see a video of its adjustment
I can’t help you there, but you can see an original in this video with closeup around 3:30

I really like Märklin engines.  For the Märklin 4112/8, I noticed the valve linkage is very interesting.  Is that a way to set steam cut off?

That does not look original, but a neat, old modification.

I have never seen the Cranko No. 2.

Very minty.

All the way from way down under.

Thanks Charlie and Stoker,

The TW has not been fired, and the crew, which really don't fit anywhere on the boat, did originally came with the boat.

I thought I'd throw one more on the table.  This is the engine I use for navigation when I'm too lazy to turn the lights on.  I believe it to be completely original.

Very cool Bob!

I love the TW vessel.  Has it ever been fired.

And everyone should check out Bob’s website.

The Elektro to Empire article is excellent.

Thank you for participating in GPU 2024.

Wow Bob, what a fine start for your table here at the GPU.

Been studying your Electro to Empire article and enjoy it very much. May I dare look forward to more of the same!?!?

The T&W and the Marklin are both wonderful exhibits to offer for our viewing pleasure, so THANK YOU for this real treat!

Here's my modest contribution.  I'm not much into creating videos.

For the duration of the GPU permissions are not required to look at all of the high resolution photos for these toys (and any you might find on the home page).

I'm busy working on my next article for the website as the first one proved quite popular.  Check out From Elektro to Empire (https://www.toyenginecollector.com/toys/article/from-elektro-to-empire) if you haven't yet read it.
