Bonjour Gil,
I think you are right because, when I took the cylinder head apart to see why I had a micro leak there, I noticed a small notch on the side at the top of the cylinder which seemed to be the cause.

Hi Raphael, It is possible that your leaking cylinder head allows enough to escape so your tube may not need a leak. Mine won't run at all without the leak in the tube. Possibly because my cylinder head doesn't leak. It seems they need a small leak.

There was no hole in that pipe. Seen on a video, I did one but the engine did not want to start again so I cut the pipe to remove it and everything came back correctly. Weird isn't it !
I guess it could depend on the gas I used, which is named in France "Essence F" usually used for cleaning.

Raphael, does your engine have a small hole that lets air in or out of the tube that connects the 2 cylinders?
Mine would not run at all until I cut an air leak into that tube.

There is certainly a similarity between these two engines but also a big difference, mine has no exhaust! It seems that this is caused by a small leak intentionally created at the level of the cylinder head because I unscrewed it and saw a small notch, even weirder... ???

Well Gil, much like Raphael's engine only much bigger ...... that is one exceedingly BIZZARE full size machine!!!

It also resembles a Reid oilfield engine.

Hi Raphael, Here are some pictures of what appears to be the same engine as original.
I don't think it is a scale model of anything but rather a full sized reproduction with a spark ignition.
This one is a flame licker. Another collector friend has a gas engine version of this that was in a boat that burned up and sank.
It's owner, a well known antique toy collector/dealer, says it is a flame eater engine.
An original like this is extremely rare.

It reminds me of an old engine I saw in a Boucher boat (a very special piece that belongs to a friend)

WOW, that is weird. Runs on vapors but not fuel.
Doesn't seem to get to hot and acts like a hit and miss.
I wonder if it has to build up enough fumes to ignite,
and then the next batch of fumes keeps it cool until it
ignites again.

I must agree with you ...... "What a BIZZARE machine"!!!
It appears to be laid out much like a Stirling Cycle engine, only the near cylinder appears to only be acting as a vapor pump to feed the power cylinder.
Never seen anything like it that I'm aware of, but certainly want to thank you for showing this to us now!
