That's good info so the mammoth roadster that I own is a 1978 or later.

Thanks Daniel, that kind of defunks some of the other stories.

According to "The Story of Malins Models", production of the SA 1 Roadster commenced in July of 1976 and 19,500 units had been produced by years end. All Mamod model production had been switched to solid fuel burners by 1977, and the Roadster wasn't produced with ten spoked wheels and water level sight glass until sometime in 1978.

That's interesting. Now this raises more questions. Things like, how to actually tell the cut off from
first year to second. Drain plug vs sight glass etc. I'm going to have to write to Mamod.

I received a bit of info from Mamod concerning the proper burners for early Mamod Roadsters in the following email chain.

Hello,

I have a vintage (6 spoke wheel) Mamod Roadster. Unfortunately, I do not have the burner. Is a replacement burner available, and if so what is the proper part number?

Best regards,

Hey Darryl,

The engine was released in 1976, And Was converted to Solid Fuel in 1977, If you got it in the 1 year Methylated spirits were used please find a company called Tony Green Steam as they still sell the meths burners, However if it is post 77 then you can find the Burner tray as X141 or X141F32 on our website mamodspares.com,

Thank You

I was under the impression that the 6-spokes were only made in 1976, but it seems those with a solid fuel burner were made after that. For how long after is the outstanding question.
