I finally decided to tackle the canopy light problem on my Markie Scenic Showman engine. There are 47 red LEDs wired in parallel. The problem is that they are generally very dim but with three or four very bright. What I would like to do is replace them with 5mm warm white LEDs but not sure if a direct replacement will work or what needs to be changed. Right now the auxiliary power supply puts out 9.25 volts DC to the front dynamo driving the exciter dynamo which under no load puts out 3.85 volts DC, or hooked up to the 47 red LEDs, 1.65 volts DC at 55 ma current. There are no resistors or current limiting device evident. I'm not too worried about the output when the engine is running under steam so this would probably be the usual setup as the engine is normally in a display cabinet. Also is anyone familiar with the two conductor adhesive backed flat power wire and where to purchase it? For me it's way above my pay grade so hopefully it makes sense to one of you - thanks for your help.
