MAGNIFIQUE!!!
Seems there is a lot of traffic ... and bad "drivers", on your model boating pond!?!?

Bonjour Stoker,
Absolutely and it will be quite mote difficult to steam because the liberty ship kit is quite different, not conceived at all for steam and made of ABS.
I have already choosen a smaller steam plant but the maon difficulty will be to tighten the plumbing elements, especially the gas part, because I have already had to deal with leaks and each time I have to dismantle everything in a certain order, reassemble then tighten, which also led to cutting a pipe in two to be able to install it.
For example, to save room and a servo, as it is not a fast boat, I have choosen a Microcosm 4,71 cm3 M2B machine:

A small boiler will possibly mean pump... electric...

But let's finish the Bavaria project first !

Looks like it all fits in there rather well.
Does this project help inform how you will manage to steam power the Liberty ship you have waiting in the wings?

Bonjour,
You are absolutely right, during this test, it was not attached to anything and ran it quite too fast.
Usually, I like coupling my 7,5+ cm3 (ot is 8,5 cm3) to 3.5" 4 blades propellers and the one installed is just 2.5" so there won't be much effort even with the coupled pump and I will be able to operate a 30 PSI working pressure as I like and set my gas regulatirs.
Furthermore, at this pressure, the steam is saturated and self-lubricating.

That engine seems to set up a rather serious vibration. Perhaps that is just because it is not firmly mounted.
Looks like it should prove to be a capable powerplant for a marine application!

Yes, it is the ABS combined with a flame fire boiler that I find to be truly scary!
But Raphael, with your vast experience and knowledge, I truly believe that if it can be done, it is you who can do it!!!

Bonjour,
I feel confident with this "large" wooden boat, I have to confess that the Liberty ship project will be much more difficult because of a lot of details and a lack of access in a hull made of ABS furthermore...
But steam Liberty ships are so rare, I like taking on this future challenge ;)

Thanks for sharing the videos.
Fascinating.

Very ambitious and a little scary too!

Bonjour,
Objective: Install a steam plantin a model of a coaster freighter on a 1/100° scale initially powered by an electric motor.
This conversion is the prelude to the same operation that I am planning for a Dean's Marine Liberty ship kit in ABS at 1/96° scale :
