Here I show further repairs and fixes and now this engine flourishes. Amazing to know it’s 100 years old and in this condition.
I pulled that secondary whistle off near the front of the boiler for two reasons- the threads didn’t fully seat the hole and gave leaks. Somehow I found a bolt that fits the threading. I wrapped it in teflon tape and put a rubber o ring on the bolt.
Zero leaks and looks wonderful. It even gave the boiler more power.
Honestly this boiler produces TOO much steam and if I even open the regulator past 40% it just takes off too fast and I don’t want to cause wear on such a beautiful old engine like this.
German engineering truly is remarkable and always has been. The way they designed the crank shaft and crank pin which is removable is quite nice, and all without using a group screw! They knew what they were doing when built. Now I want another doll engine or a Marklin. I’m totally addicted.
Let me know your thoughts on this masterpiece, it’s definitely my favorite engine in my collection. Half tempted to get a glass showcase for it with an LED light!
I’ve done alot of soldering and various things. Very tricky work on such an old engine.
