Title: Dolly boiler & firebox restoral help
Post by: Steamburns on August 11, 2024, 04:09:39 pm
I am ready to restore this boiler and firebox and make it look “purdy” ; however I need some tips.

Below are photos of what it currently looks like and what one should look like.  I noticed that the original 364/1 series had a checkered brick pattern embedded, mine does not, which isn’t a big deal.

What would be the best course of action for rust removal without too much abrasives.

Also, for the boiler to give it that original bluish hue tint how do I remove all the brown residue on it?   Charlie mentioned MAAS metal polish, which would be ideal, but will it remove the brown tarnish on here?  I’m not sure what kind of metal this boiler is or was made from.

I’m guessing for the firebox I need high temperature black paint. Can anyone give suggestions on brands and instructions on how to do this.
