Hi folks,
I am beginning a several month project to build a steam plant with a Stuart D10V & 504 (?) Stuart boiler.
Both items donated by Charlie.. I’m not a machinist so obtaining a Stuart boiler fully functional is a tricky task.
On this plant I will be using copper pipe and union cones with a hand water feed pump, condenser/ oil catch, water cup, perhaps a flyball governor.
This is not the base it will be on but the base for testing, and the first steps is getting the boiler sealed. It originally came with a sealed sight glass however the bottom fitting for the blowdown of the sight glass leaked a tremendous amount of water. I was very careful to remove the sight glass but it still ended up breaking. The extra sight glass I have laying around isn’t the correct outer diameter, so I’m wondering if someone can share where to buy sight glasses and sizing. Also, I know how to solder union cones to copper pipe but sizing is where I’m stuck. On a 1/4-40 TPI what size copper pipe will fit into its union cone? I have a mismatch of fittings, top of the boiler output is something larger than 1/4-40, it is a 5/16. I suppose I can use a reducing bushing somewhere in the steam line to reduce it down to 1/4-40. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And shoutout to Charlie once again for being so generous. [attachimg=1][attachimg=2]
