Thanks one and all.
Someone on YT told me "buy some MES fitting warm white LED bulbs, and a rectifier as the output of the generator is ac".
I've googled the bulbs, but 'rectifier' is another language to me.

I have a modern Jensen 15 generator, which just barely worked when new . I just assumed that was just the nature of the beast and accepted it . Later on , I was working with it , and found that the ground was loose . I tightened that loose ground , and man what a difference it made . The bulb now lights up like it should .

One of my Jensen cast iron genny's barely lights the correct Jensen globe.
With the lights dimmed in the room and a 20G going flat chat driving the genny I can see a feint glow of the filament.
Any hints?
Jensen magnets are notoriously weak and sometimes need to be re-magnetized.
Very true, find a bloke in your area that dabbles in hit n miss engines & he'll be able to help you. The top piece of the magnet set is the only part that's magnetized.

I’ve had luck cleaning the two leaf springs that touch the shaft as well as the shaft contact as well, using alcohol.
Probably already done that?
