Hi

More details:

1. It is an Aluminum Base Casting, look at first post last photo,
2. The drive wheel is cast, looks to be AL also,
3. The rest of the mechanism top, table are metal, (update Table or bottom platform is actually cast Al also)
4. It is clearly not a put together, if you look at the underside the base and the new detail picture below of the drive
  system looks all integrated,
5. The horses and figures are plastic more than likely indicating a 1950's or late 1940's as earliest date,
6. Horses go up and down and are attached by glue or melted plastic see new photo,
7. There is a music mechanism, but cannot make out the tune as drive wheels are hard and do not move the carousel around,
8. It does appear there was a drive mechanism see first post's photos - three of them show a platform that had something
  it.

I sure appreciate all the insights and suggestions for searches etc.

You're right--didn't notice the base and never seen a Marklin tool with a wooden base.

In answer to one of your questions, yes, Marklin made a large variety of cast iron machine tools. In your cabinet photo the grinder on the far left looks like it might be Marklin.
I was thinking Bing, note the wood base too

I have collected toys for over 40years and I have never seen this toy either. However, I would suggest that you search through some of the early cast iron toy makers. Makers like Ives, Hubley, Arcade, Dent, Kenton, Shimer, Ideal, Wilkins, etc.. I would especially look at early Kenton and Arcade toys. This toy probable originally had a "Plinky" windup motor on the bottom. Something does strike me as  odd. The figures represented on the toy don't strike me as especially old while this type of cast iron base would suggest significant age. Could this be a "put together" toy; a top and bottom that didn't originally come together? This is a real problem with old, original horse drawn cast iron toys.

Yes, it has to be, the horses and figures fit perfect, they were designed to attach to the mechanism, likely a Christmas time toy.

Do you think it’s original? The combination of Cowboys, Indians, and a Santa Claus seems odd??

Thank You for all the suggestions / observations.  I continued my searches focusing on USA, no luck.  I think it must be USA made given Santa Clause (USA style), Cowboys and Indians.  For now back on the shelf.  I think at some point I will accidentally find out who made.

Nick, you commented:

I don’t think its from any of the toy steam makers… they are all tin, this looks cast?

I was not sure what you were referring too.  Here is a photo in my cabinet with cast items, Jensen, Wilesco, and some unidentified.  Did Marklin have cast machine tools?

I meant I have never seen a cast carousel, I have several from the 20’s - 30’s but they are all tin and quite flimsy

I acquired this Carousel several years ago.  I have never seen it again or found it any of my books.  It has Cowboys, Indians, and a Santa Clause on it.  I did searches – toy carousel, toy cowboy carousel, toy Santa Clause carousel, motorized toy carousel and several others.  I guessed it might be MARX, Marklin, Bing, Doll but no luck.  Never came up with anything. No markings anywhere.  Looks like it had a motor or something on the side.

Maybe someone here has some information

Thank You
