Here's a source of flat belts: https://pmmodelengines.com/belting/
And here's a video on how to make your own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ds8un0NGrPw

I haven't done so yet, but I'm intending this Summer to do just that, by mounting the flywheel on a lathe and cut a groove using a cutting tool with a pointed replaceable insert. Another way would be to use a flat belt like we see on prototype steam tractors. I've seen YouTube videos of other modelers using this method.

Like the flywheel on this SP5D:

Hi,
I have recently been working on a Mamod Minor dynamo/generator project. It uses a Tony Green 9 volt dynamo wired to a 2.5 volt incandescent bulb. It seems to light the bulb well & the voltage reading is about 2.5 volts.
I would like to get closer to the dynamo's rated capacity, and the obvious way to do this is to use a larger diameter pulley on the engine rather than the standard small diameter pulley that they all come with - to gear up the speed of the dynamo rotation. However, I am struggling to find any Mamod/Wilesco/anything else large grooved flywheels, as in use say on the Mamod SP2D or SP5D. Does any one know a source for this?
Thank you
Milo
