I made an offer on an engine today in Canada and received this message

“i have received offers for the steam engine so at the moment canada post is on strike so i cant ship this out as the cost using fedex or ups would be very expensive i can let you know when they go back to work if you want.”

I purchased this engine on 10/6. I just today received a bill from UPS for $10 that is due by 11/21

It says tariff rate: free
Entry prep fee: $10

That doesn't sound right?

If there's no tariff charge, then why should there be any "Entry Prep Fee"???

The other page breaks it down as:
US Customs Duties: $0
Brokerage Charges: $10

If not paid by 11/21 it is subject to 9.9% late payment fee.

I easily could have easily passed it off as junk mail and I rarely look through my “paper mail” till a month after receiving it 😂

I ordered two new live steam, G-gauge locomotives from England before the tariffs went into effect. I paid $230 and $150 in tariffs to receive them.

Ouch. I would be pissed.

There are a few overseas engines I'd love to buy but won't because tariffs would be due.  Much like sales tax, it really bothers me having to pay this stuff on old incomplete, likely broken, used items.

The documentation regarding the tariffs is the most daunting part.

That is for sure, and then there is the fact that some custom officers are not too friendly to certain countries right now.

I bought a 13 ton Shay live steam engine from the Train Department not too long ago and ended up getting an extra bill for tariffs and shipping which he went 50/50 on.

Nice engine Larry .... Congratulations!

I've been tempted by that one my-own-self, but perhaps fortunately, don't have the scratch!!!

I looked at GB tariff documents regarding categories/values of items to be shipped
and it does appear that the tariff will be negligible if anything at all for our 'used'
items.  I cannot speak about valuable 'used' or new items.  The documentation
regarding the tariffs is the most daunting part.

I have received a few lesser cost items from Jin recently, and one expensive one (Knucklehead), and have paid no tariffs as yet.

There is a rather expensive collection of ephemera taking an unusually long time coming from Great Britain, which seemed to have been stalled in Customs on this side of the pond for several days, that will hopefully arrive here soon. I am a bit worried that it may have a tariff bill attached, but don't actually know yet, so will have to report back after delivery?!?!

I received an engine in June that I made a deposit on in January before tariffs. The dealer split the tariff cost so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. The engine came from Germany.

I started this thread for anyone who paid a tariff recently.

To be clear this is not to be a political thread but simply a place we can share our tariff experiences or lack of them on international packages.
