Title: Weeden No. 665
Post by: RichSteamTx on October 28, 2025, 12:41:24 am
A bit ago I won a Weeden No. 665 that finally came in (slow eBay shipper).  Other than missing the smoke stack, it's complete.  The governor shaft was bent in the listing photos and I could tell there was lots of calcium buildup in the sight glass.  First thing I checked when it arrived was the heater, which it was good - YAY!

Though my luck stopped there.  As I was trying to get loose the sight glass, it broke though I have some in stock.  I don't much like it as its 3mm OD and the Weeden glass tube is 3.5mm OD but it works (water flow isn't great in the tube).  The worst part is the top collar/fitting pulled clean out of the tank - it was a bad sweat job from the factory.  Luckily I have a few NOS collars and I soldered one in.  Not happy with it as it needs to be sweated in (torch, not solder iron) but its in and sealed.  Just looks like crap, sigh.

Anyways, this No. 665 is more or less a No. 49, just electric.  Heck the iron base has No. 49 on it.  This thing is cool.  Two fly wheels, iron base, nickeled tank and electric.  It can really move!  Now to find a smoke stack - I'll need some luck finding one.  Got a pretty good deal, not many bidders. Shipping was nearly 1/2 the cost (I won it for $68).

I also LOVE the colors - not often do I recall a Weeden having pin stripping and the yellow on blue looks lovely.  I assume it is factory, it seems to be.  Then the Flywheels have a groves and I think it was filled in with black.  I bet this engine looked fabulous when it was new, heck it still looks pretty darn good when you consider its age!

Here's a photo, video coming soon.
