I don't know what the world has got into, it's a world wide phenomenon that kids behave bad, no respect for anyone and anything, and nothing is done about it.
Parents getting punished wenn they call their kids to oder.
Politicians just approve to get votes.
And the police is being laughed at.
People must start to realize that this development is the end of or societies values a decay of western civilization.
Wenn I came from school I had to do a 10 month army service, for those who had no discipline and character learned it there the hard way.

I just have difficulty believing that anyone is beyond reaching. Maybe
we are at that point and life has to get mean again for people to be
afraid of the consequences of their actions and learn how their actions
hurt other folks, materially and emotionally.

Yes, their parents should be made co-responsible as well as their teachers and school boards, for they too share in the creation of these little monsters!

Barring that, I go with being forced to repay and rebuild, no matter how long
it takes. I know they have indeterminate or 'open-ended' sentences in the UK,
so let them work till they drop. Hit the parents too, for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Make an example of them. No wrist-slap. Hard work. Seriously. If they are
really young there is a slight chance they can be rehabbed and honest work is the
most essential part. They are very lucky the authorities caught them instead of
the display builders - there might have been a beat-down.

I think their sentence should be to:
- learn the skills required to build those displays
- they can start learning during their prison stay
- re-build them all
- and, oh yes.... apologize!
- Be stuck wearing ankle bracelets and on probation until they are done.
