Title: Re: Accucraft Ruby

Looks in great Condition Nick.

I purchased a Ruby kit in December 2017. It is fitted with the later larger bore cylinders, the reverser linkage has been beefed-up to prevent the reverser piston valve being pushed out, and I understand the valve block has been reworked so there is no difference between running forwards or backwards. I did have a problem with the regulator valve being very tight & not fully closing, but replaced that with the regulator valve which came off my Mark I Ragleth having fitted a Train Department replacement regulator valve.

This Ruby will run for approx. 18 mins on one fill of gas, but the gas does outlast the boiler water so I use a water filler valve during the run.

A box arrived today that looks an awful lot like a previous Accucraft package... Much heavier than I was expecting... I suppose I should open it up and see that it arrived safely  ;)

I suggest removing and blowing out the gas jet before prepping for the first steam-up. It will likely be blocked by teflon tape applied to the threads at the factory. That seems to be standard procedure with Accucraft.  ::)

Also pm sent re: track.  ;)

Thanks for the tip and Thank You re: track!  ;D ;D pm replied  ;D

I have bid many in the past up to the $350 range, so I was hoping by making the $200 offer, the seller would counter with something in that range, but instead they accepted. Looks like the three most recent ebay sales have been around $500.

Now to find an Ida with a matching price tag...  :D

Best price I've ever heard one go for. They are none too sophisticated, but an awful lot of them have been made over an awful lot of years, so I'd have to think that they are not all that awful, or they never would have been made in such numbers for so long!

Hope you got yourself a good one ...  you certainly got yourself a jewel of a bargain!!!

I've always liked the look of the Ruby, but have never heard the greatest of reviews about it... so I took a chance and sent a $200 offer on this one and was very surprised to find the seller accepted!  ;D  Guess I will have to get some new track as I only have O-gauge...
