Title: Tale of a TE1a
Post by: Weedensteam on July 28, 2019, 12:19:08 pm
I have been thinning my collection as most of you likely know, I have some things listed on my site, and I have put some engines on the local Craigslist to eliminate the added cost of shipping. I have no problem helping anyone out but sometimes one has to draw the line.

Couple weeks ago I sold a TE1a, next day I got a message could he come over and use my steam oil as he didn't have any, I advised him to just use any regular oil for a trial until he got some steam oil. His reply was he didn't have any regular oil and he wanted to come over anyway so I could mentor him and get the engine running.

I explained that I am in the middle of a kitchen reno with workers in the house, my shop is a mess and did not presently have time to work on his engine, perhaps later. I then received a message that if I didn't have time for him to come over to my place he would pick me and drive me to his place.

Before I could reply I got a phone call, he could not get the engine to run, I started to offer suggestions when he interrupted and told me he was not interested in figuring out why, he wanted me to get it running for him immediately, that was the least I could do.

By this time my patience had run out, and I told him as long as he had that attitude I was not interested in helping him, and suggested he go online and do some research.

After I hung up the phone several other messages started arriving defaming me so I blocked him, never heard from him again, and now see this add on Craigslist;

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/pml/tag/d/coquitlam-mamod-live-steam-engine/6937141839.html

He is using photos of three different engines in the ad, only two of them are the one I sold him.

Strange tale Frank .... just goes to show these kinds of folks are everywhere, and not just on eBay either!

Mamod live steam tractor Te1a. It comes with bottle of steam oil...
Attractive working model of a traditional English traction engine.
The TE1A has a reversing lever- forward speed and reversing speed.

If he needed oil, does that mean it is empty??  :D

Crazy Frank.

I plan on selling some too in the near future. I think I will skip craigslist. 🤠
