Title: Kingston & Pembroke Railway
Post by: Hero on March 03, 2020, 01:55:18 pm
I have somehow become custodian of a 3.5" gauge model of a diesel locomotive with K&P markings (odd to start with, as the K&P Railway never ran a diesel to my knowledge).

Anyway, the whole thing is odd. It was apparently built using battery-powered drill motors on each wheel, and the whole outfit is packed with esoteric electronics and connected to one 12ah battery. The builder was an electronics specialist who started his working life as a typewriter repairman and eventually worked at NASA on satellite guidance systems. He intended to run this in his back yard, but never quite got to that before he died.

When I got it, the battery was dead. I now have a new one, but have not yet installed it (it's still winter in my garage). Soon I'll have a closer look at it all and see if it runs.

In the meantime, it sure looks pretty.

Very neat.

Sounds like the builder had an interesting life from typewriter repairman to NASA.

Good luck resuscitating it.

And here's a look at the electronics:

Neat scratch build.

Do you have access to tracks to run it?

I do and I don't. I belong to a club with the right track, but these days I don't get out much....😷
