Post by: JinMachine on April 04, 2019, 06:38:18 am
I am very happy to have a new place to exchange! Thanks Gil for helping me.
This is a new engine and a new attempt. Upgrade with a metal piston ring. Hope everything goes well. Jin

Wow!  That’s very nice Jin.  Let me add my welcome, great to have you on board here.  I like the looks of this new design.....I get the feeling the engine you just shipped me is going to get a brother once those are available.

Because this is a low speed engine, the first pump solution was cancelled. A new pump was used.

You better ramp up production Jin.

You are going to have difficulty keeping up with the orders! 🤠

I do like the progression of watching the build process &  what works & what's been tried & found not satisfactory. I love you fuel tank holder , I think 2 holders would look & be very beneficial if you could work it in to the design, if I may be so bold. This just begs to be on a marble mount imho...would also calm it down from moving about. I will be on the list when all the work in progress issue's are worked out. Love the forced water cooling radiator  and drive pully. Lots of modding possibilities with this one. Thanks for sharing with us.

Where can I sign up?  Is there any possibility for a forum group buy?

Thanks again for some awesome photos of your prototyping.

I am sorry because of the weight of the marble board we have to consider the transportation cost. Jin

Victorian Hit & Miss Gas Engine upgrades electric start
Try starting the vertical engine with a motor.

Is it that hard to start that is needs this electronic starter Jin ? speaking only for myself , I'm very turned off by the big starter gear over that beautiful flywheel, if it absolutely needs a starter motor...perhaps maybe a less intrusive ring gear on the "inside" of the flywheel & maybe a starter generator set-up , or possibly a groove cut in the flywheel & a easily detachable drive belt & starter. I know this is a public "work in progress" & I appreciated that insight very much.

I’d have to agree with Bruce......the Gear is a big negative for me. Have you thought of integrating a domed “spinner” on the center of the flywheel that you could use with a handheld electric motor with rubber cup that would spin the spinner to start the engine - the way model airplanes are started?

Love the engine BTW!  Thanks for showing it!

How about a simple rope start pulley. I have several small hit miss engines that I have added a small pulley for a simple rope starter. Works well and doesnt distract from the nice looking flywheel.

I plan to install the engine on the model ship, so I need an electric starter! Jin

Makes sense if it's going into a boat, but for stand-alone engines I do like Doug's rope-start pulley idea  ;)

This engine will start easily by hand just like the horizontal. You will not need a rope or electric start unless it goes in a boat.

Just out of curiosity (and because I have a 50" steam launch in need of a power plant) I wonder how big a boat this would handle - would definitely make for an interesting build.

My guess is that it would handle it much more than easily, might even be a bit much for it, depending on the displacement.

I want to assemble a boat, so install the electric start. Because in the boat, hand start is unwise to operate. Jin
