Gifted Bowman 234's getting test run on my railway
« on: August 06, 2021, 09:30:20 am »
Here is a short video of one of the 2 Bowman 234's that were gifted to my friend and myself by a generous forum member here.  This is my friends engine getting some track testing before being drained dry for shipping to him as he lives about 2 hours from my place.  I will teach him to run it later this fall if not sooner if the opportunity presents itself.  He wanted the LMS one, which is lacking a tender so I am hunting for another Bowman tender for him now.  For the test run, I put my LNER tender behind it.  Running on 5 wicks with one capped in the video.  After I stopped filming, speed started to creep up as the engine loosened up.  I think 5 wicks will be about right with the cars hooked on.   Mike

This is a wonderful story and look at that zip round the track!  I told myself I wasnt going to do live trains....  looks so tempting!
Love steam engines, especially older German made.  Love the more clockwork style.  Addicted to this stuff!

She headed out in today's mail to my friend that lives a couple hours south of me.  Will be his very first live steam engine of any kind.  He wont be running it till him and I get together in a few weeks.  Then I can teach him how to run it properly.  For now he gets to study it and enjoy it. I have some passenger coaches coming for my Bowman and B-L Super E to pull.  Videos coming soon.

He received the crimson red loco today and loves it!  He cant wait till we can get together so I can teach him to run it.  Hopefully in a few weeks.  I go in for hernia surgery next week, so I will be down for a bit while I heal up.   At least O gauge steamers are light weight and easy to carry as I am sure there will be no lifting for a couple weeks after surgery.  But as soon as I feel up to it, I will run some steam on my railway while I sit in a chair.

Good luck with your surgery Mike.

I am certain you will be up and steaming again very soon.

Take care of yourself.
