October Morning Steam
« on: October 19, 2019, 09:51:44 am »
Seemed like a nice morning for running some steam in the cooler 50 degree air so the steam would show up good - will try again later in the fall as the temperature goes down more. The Roundhouse Leek & Manifold is my newest engine and only has a couple of hours run time but it's starting to smooth out especially at low speeds. And I've been wanting to run the I.P. Engineering coaches since I built them awhile ago - can tell they need some weight added but overall did well.

Regards,
Larry

I accomplished a couple of my goals by getting some additional runtime on the engine and carriages and by actually creating a video which I was a little leery of since it's been two or three years since I did one. Also learned a couple of things including the fact I need a better camera for video and that the carriages need additional weight to track better. I'm looking forward to next spring when it will be time to readjust the layout for level and to perhaps replace the sagging 12' span ( two 2x4 with no load sagging..........ridiculous! ) with a truss bridge, or just another support, and to upgrade the track alignment at the hinged gate with a more positive device. Geoff Munday at Lightlines lined the engine - don't have any closeups of my own but here are a couple he sent me.

The Roundhouse Leek & Manifold is a stunning engine & runs a treat, I really like you permanent track layout...you almost have room for a another set of tracks on that platform. again...beautiful Loco she is !

A pleasant run in the cool air of fall. That really gets my blood pumping and my thoughts racing. But currently the woodshed roof needs attending, and the woodshed itself need filling.

Ah Life ... it is what happens to you while you wish to be working on other plans. Heck I'm even missing a favorite shoot tomorrow to get the dang roof done before the cold front comes in tomorrow night. I've had an engine partially disassembled on the workbench for over a week, to the point I might even forget how to reassemble it, or what I even had it apart for?!?!

But taking a ride on your railroad has soothed my jangled nerves, calmed my angst and assuage my disappointments .... so thank you for the uplift of my sagging spirit!

Hi Larry,

Enjoyed the video.  I have packed up running for this year both at home and at the model club too damp and the falling leaves give problems.  Roll on the warmer weather.

Take care Tony.

Just finding an interest in steam locos. I liked your vid- killer track!!!  I’m thinking of a simple oval layout on garage concrete and running inside/ outside. The track will be temporary installed for about a week at a time. I may progress deeper, but for now I just want to run laps with steam for a few days.

Sounds like a great way to get started but be warned, it's addictive!
