06/1/19 More track work today,
We attempted to pack the sleepers up to level the track, however all we found was rotten wood, this has called for drastic measures. Over the 15mtr section that was lifted we only recovered one peice of wood that could have been called a sleeper, the rest was soft rotted remains of timbers.
The track has been lifted in 2.5mtr sections, the old screws that were rusted or broken will be punched out or ground out. And new 3x2" sleepers will be attached next week.
The ground under the track was dug out and a fresh layer of ballast was laid to form the bed for the sleepers to lay on, levelled and tamped down firm.
Once we refurbish the track panels next week it will be a short job to replace them onto the ballast bed and top with ballast forming a nice shoulder of ballast on the sleepers.
Also had a visit from a very nice Bedford wagon while we were there so very enjoyable day [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
