Saved From a Fate Worse Than Death
« on: March 02, 2020, 08:03:07 pm »
A couple of years ago I bought a cheap electronic tachometer to help determine feeds & speeds for my lathe and mill. At the time, I paid about $15.00 for it. It worked great for a while, then just stopped altogether, so I just got another one, which has worked fine.

Today I was fixing things (like my scrap yard gold Allpax gasket maker) and ran across the broken tach. Turns out the negative lead had broken off from the 9v battery connector, but the break was hidden, of course.

Well, a little disassembly and delicate soldering gave me TWO working cheap tachometers. My time, of course, was worth far more than the tach.

Better late than never, cheap than sorry, two than one, I say....😜😇

I find the connectors usually break/pull completely out of the black "leathers". I keep a stash of new 9 volt battery connectors right next to my soldering gun
