Just done myself a mischief, steaming up a Mamod SE3 and splashed the table with metho from the lit burner, felt like I was getting a little warm.........
This flanno is only about 4 years old and just getting broken in

The flame thrower effect of some of those old spirit burners is very impressive isn't it and handy how its pointed at the operator.
I keep a water bottle atomiser that shoots out a goodly amount of water handy now....its what I put myself out with a little while ago

Yea... Had to grab that one out of the engine with my hand so I didn’t burn the paint!

I keep a couple wet towels handy, made my table top metal and have a concrete floor in the basement
By the way... Are flannel shirts even needed there?? Or, do they look like this

We’re in the middle of an Indian Summer this week, had snow a week or so ago, now it’s been hitting low 70’s all week (21 C). Kids were asking me to take the pool out today

Hope you did!
Haha, no, all buried in the shed for winter. I let them play with a few buckets of dirty carrot water in their sandbox and they were happy
Dang it man....I hate doing that to my favorite shirts.
Ouch ... but good thing you had a fairly thick shirt on, as the flame would have been through a t-shirt and onto your skin in no time!
Glad you only lost a shirt tail Jim ...... really glad you didn't lose more!!!
They will bite back on occasion and good on you having the water sprayer at the ready.
I have found that some of the flamethrower vent tube effect can be prevented by putting a silicon tube 5-6" long on the vent. After it gets hot, this gets the vapor far enough away from the flame that it rarely ignites. The tube extension also gives you something cool to the touch to grab onto when you need to pull it out.
Cheers one and all, at least I got a nice soft flannelette rag to cut up out of it
