The US regulated ourselves out of the forest products business except for a handful of big operators.  In my lifetime I’ve seen all but one big mill close around here, and they’re running TP. Nobody running dimensional softwood, and we have been burning our hardwoods for years.   Add any glitch at the border, like Covid or other border patrol games, your Canadian ply doubles instantly,…….  That lovely Baltic birch? Russia produces a big chunk, so with them sanctioned, Scandinavian Birch through the roof. And have you priced diesel lately? It’s the biggest cost loggers have.

The whole thing is a consequence of big corporate just in time, super efficient bullshit making markets fragile.
