Thanks for the videos Lenn.

That's a nice grouping with open sights.

Were you shooting at 100 yards?

I stick with modern stuff.  I have a .308 Sniper Rifle made for the FBI Counter-terrorism Unit.  It's the most accurate rifle I have owned, but its very heavy and not for carrying around.  It will shoot sub-one inch groups at 300 yards.  I have a 1,000 yard range on my ranch and enjoy the long range bench shooting with steel targets.

Thanks Charlie, yep 100 yards.
I`ve shot long range, the longest was at 500 yards with my Sharps rifle in 45-70 but no good groups.
Sounds like you have a neat rifle and amazing accuracy.

I`m more of a lever gun shooter than anything but like old semi auto`s  with history too.
Have a model 81 Remington in 35 Rem that`s a neat rifle too.

Nice grouping at 100 yards Lenn, much better than my longbow!

I do like the M1 Garand along with the M1 Carbine and it is nice you own a wartime model. I've only ever shot one rifle and that was a bolt action Lee Enfield in .303 similar to a M1903 Springfield, i remember not hitting a thing on the range and the bruises on my shoulder. Hopefully you haven't suffered Garand thumb! :D

I once owned a near mint condition M1 . It had a national match rear sight and it was
a joy to shoot. I loaded my own match grade ammunition and my rifle was very accurate.

The old 06 i have came with a NM bolt rod , most of the Garands ya buy arn`t original if they are they are spendy, the barrel and receiver match on my 06 and the stock.

Those young whipper snappers like Stoker, Jim and you would probably put em all in one hole.

Don't know where you got the idea that I'm a "young whippersnapper" Lenn, but having been born in the first half of the prior century, I can assure you that I do not at all qualify for that sobriquet!

As for my ability to put them all in one hole, or even in the black, I will boast that there was a day when I could do that, and would even have been considered a damn good shot a decade or so ago, but eyes, nerves, muscle and ability do not last a lifetime I've found, so I'm definitely reduced to a pleasant and still enjoyable mediocrity these days.

Not really open sights Charlie, as the Garand carries an aperature peep sight that is fully adjustable for elevation and windage, which makes quite a difference as compared to true "open" sights.

But yes, that is a nice group Lenn has shot from a rifle 3/4 of a century old, using "iron" sights as opposed to a scope. Many folks with far more modern rifles with fine scopes would not do nearly as well!!!

Sorry fellers i just took it that you guys feel better than me and could do better, no offense meant.
I read a good article the other day about concentrating on the front sight only that made a lot of sense and will be trying it out.

It was a video.

I'm sure you meant no offense Lenn, and none was taken, I just find it pretty funny that you thought I was some "young whippersnapper". As for feeling better than you, I certainly can't say because I don't really know just how you feel, though it is clear that you don't feel your best by a long shot. Pun intended! But I can say that there are days when various and sundry of my body parts give me the miseries as well. I do know for a fact that this aging stuff ain't for the weak or faint of heart, and that's for certain and for sure!!!
