Future new project?
« on: February 10, 2020, 03:25:39 am »
Hi,

Before leaving the UK last week as well as doing a bit of track work on the layout I did a little bit of work on a possible future project.  I have been retired 13 years and thought I had no unknown horological items left; but in a decomposing plastic bag on a book shelf in my den a clock was found.  I have no memories of it! The item in question is a good quality German 8 day striking pendulum clock; for the technical it has a rack strike and a dead-beat escapement with vernier regulator, at a guess made around 1900 or not long after.

I have too many other projects on the go at the moment to make a start on doing something with it; but thoughts would be using the movement as a sort of open case skeleton type clock possibly using charity shop purchases to fill it out a bit.  To this end I have removed the centre of its dial to show the striking mechanism working and it is now back in a new plastic bag on the shelf.

When a plastic storage bag starts decomposing, you know it's been stashed away for awhile  :D :D

Already looks a lot better with the innards on display

Well Tony lets hope you didn't dust it, open it, and rebag it just so it can set somewhere on the shelf for the next umpteen years.
Maybe put a tag on it.
