Jensen #70 with unique firebox
« on: July 06, 2019, 06:58:18 am »
Hi folks, I finished this little #70 up a few weeks ago, it has a bit of a unique firebox on it...it was originally a flame firebox & it appears Mr. Jensen needed a regular firebox for this #70 ,so he just spot welded a piece of metal on both sides to cover the holes & viola ,problem solved. I had the boiler re-nickel plated & took the fire box down to bare metal & repainted it. I realized after I made the video the I had neglected to oil the engine after cleaning....it ran so much better once I had done that. please enjoy.

Bruce, another gem!!! The re-nickled boiler really makes that baby look great...same for the shiny firebox with more depth of paint than Mr. J ever applied!

Sweet runner too.

A very nice engine, well done making it shine like that Bruce !

Have a couple of engines here with the same type firebox, and find them a fine proof of the old Jensen tradition, of using up every usable part in stock.
Cheers

Nice one Bruce, I think I have one like that here and I know I have a Cooper Bros with the same firebox.

Your re-plated boilers make me very tempted to have a few of mine re-done  8)

Job well done- that new nickel looks fab.
It is tempting to pony up the $ for on of the Caswell plating rigs...

If I had the storage space... And the money... I'd have a few more engines.

Saw one of those on eBay today. It sold for 77.
it had the normal firebox (no air holes) & was in poor condition....what was your point ?
