Boiler PreHeater
« on: May 07, 2019, 11:05:43 pm »
I made this boiler preheater some time ago, works brilliantly. I know that is some very (very) rough silver brazing, I've learnt a bit since then and
would like to think that if I made this again it would look a lot nicer. Oh well, I just have to say to myself that it gives it some unique character.

Here's some photos of it and a video below.

I didn't realize how big this was till I made it down to the pictures with the engines/boiler and video. I would say it looks dang good for an early attempt and I would be very pleased to have it in my collection! And if you're still not happy, well... let's see you make another  ;) ;D

Thanks Nick, it makes a huge difference pumping boiling water into the boiler instead of cold water.

Now I'd just like to get something like a Stuart pump to automate that process and retire my PMR hand pumps  :)

Here's the pre-heater for my Stuart steam plant (S50 with 501 boiler). It uses waste heat from the engine exhaust.

I'd like to say I made it, Jim, but it ain't so. I have no idea, though, of who did make it.

Go here for what I know of this plant and a better picture of the pre-heater:

Hi Bob, I asked because those feet remind of how Geoff (Ozsteamdemon) did feet on his water towers etc, but I didn't remember him making a pre-heater.

Its very very nice.

fine looking pre-heater Jim, & robust as well (as all your builds are), I must have missed this before.

Thanks Bruce, it does make a difference pumping hot water into a boiler.
