I've done it before but it must have been 30 years ago, so hard to remember. If I'm not mistaken you will need to unscrew the posts of the top railing which act as nuts for the pillars. In that case you first need to anneal and straighten the ends of the wire/rod "railing" and remove it before you can remove the posts. Hope I'm remembering correctly.
