Thanks for the interest.
The horizontal center flue is 1.5" x 9" and
has a total of 12 cross-tubes in an 'X' pattern,
which start about 1.5" in from each flue end.
The boiler body, which is inside a sheet-metal
shroud, is a bit less than 3.25" x 7" with the
flue centered inside and extending roughly
1" beyond the boiler on each end. In the
original setup the blowtorch shot into the same
end as the cylinder and steambox and exited
at the crank end. The original blowtorch looked
cobbled-up and not safe at all (takes a lot for me
to say something like that is unsafe).
So, any good ideas on heater sources? I was going
to place 4 200W buffered cartridge heaters in the
cross-tube 'X's' but am open to a good gas heater
setup as option number one. If it was a vertical
boiler I'd be tying to think of a way to fuel it with
wood. I don't think that would be an option here.
Thanks,
Wayne
