As far as removing the blade from the saw goes, I struggled with that for a while.
I was afraid of breaking the saw if I pried too much, it can be done but my advice is to cut the shaft here, between the pillow block and the brass spacer, the shaft does not go into the other pillow block so the blade and short bit of shaft will drop out and you can remove the the longer section of shaft from the left

The shaft is easily replaced with a new length of 1/8" rod or piano wire.
