(another) 1/2 hp Sipp steam engine
« on: January 09, 2022, 08:22:54 pm »
I was fortunate enough to capture another 1/2 hp G. Sipp steam engine. this one comes all the way from Texas & had a bit of a rough trip , I completely disassembled it & had the base repaired at (2) different machine, shops B&B steam & Acro engineering, the base was nearly 1/8" untrue on the bottom & I had it machined on a blanching surface grinder & they also trued the top pads for the engine mount & the stanchions for both axle supports , so now its nearly 100% level, true & parallel with itself. it was missing one acorn oiler so I made a 50% larger one for the crosshead guide. I am now breaking it in again with the new parts and this is a slow process. the cast base has been repainted black (top & bottom). in addition it has a Swift steam lubricator , brass whistle & pressure gauge. thanks again to Chris Harpring @ Acro Engineering (owner) , Greensburg In. for his careful surface grinding on a very old  cast frame. Also A big thanks to Charlie for helping me acquire it from the Scott Rouze collection

The Sipp came from Scott's collection.  His widow drove it from Houston to my house in Plano.  I packed it in a Fed Ex Freight crate.  I worked on the packing for an entire day, but it didn't survive the trip.  The Base was cracked and the axle was bent.  My first failure shipping a steam engine.  I was heartbroken.  Thankfully, it ended up in Bruce's hands and I am so relieved that he had the resources and relationships to get it fixed.

Thank you Bruce for saving this wonderful engine.  You did a phenomenal job!
