2nd Weeden #14 from eBay Lot
« on: November 05, 2024, 05:13:25 am »
This is the second No. 14 that I got from that eBay Lot of 10 Weeden items.  This one needed a new Governor, sight glass/seals, and piston end cap sealing. Otherwise it was complete, even came with its burner!

Very nice & powerful No. 14

Weeden #14s are truly great old engines, offering fair power, they can also be adjusted to run about as slow as any steam engine that I know.

They have a rather powerful burner, that seems surprisingly scarce in the wild, with which care should be always used because of all the lead alloy parts typically found on these engines. I have one that even has a fair chunk melted out of the flywheel by some portion of misguided flame!

Agreed on all points the the Weedens or Weedens in general!  These engines I got could easily be a hundred years old, near it, or way over it.  That front wick really start to flame out from the base before I started the video and I blew it out!  Still it ran like crazy with the back two and then the middle went out on its own.

Both these No. 14 are superb engines, even when you don't discount their age.  I've had a lot of fun working on them.  I sent the seller videos and he was very happy to see them run after only seeing them on a shelf all his life!
